AUTHOR'S NOTE

I want to directly address a frequent misunderstanding about my fictional books, including my latest work, "Without."

As I've clearly stated on the first page of my book: My fictional stories are not related to anyone intentionally; any similarity is entirely coincidental.

It is important for readers to understand that the narratives within these pages—which explore universal themes like societal , political and immigrant issues—are works of imagination.

The only exception across my 7 published books is "Can we talk," which is a genuine, true-life personal story.

My intention is for readers to engage with the universal themes and fictional narratives I've created. I therefore request that you stop assuming or feeling sorry or happy for me or my family by imagining our lives or true experiences within these fictional stories.

Thank you for respecting the distinction between my art and my life.
