THE AUTHOR'S BURDEN

It's completely normal for readers to connect with books, drawing out parts that resonate with them or pique their interest. However, as an author, I've unfortunately experienced situations where some readers use elements of a story to manipulate and accuse me of all sorts of crimes – crimes that might only exist within the pages of my books.

This harassment can escalate, with readers sometimes assuming I've written a story to search for a mystery person or even that my book characters are real and financially support me. While it can be entertaining to see readers' reactions to my work, breaking boundaries and accusing a writer of crimes they've "understood" from the books is more than just annoying; it's emotional abuse.
