THE PRICE OF CREATIVITY
I have personally encountered a persistent issue where some readers attempt to link my fictional work directly to my private life, regardless of my repeated posts, announcements, and direct statements confirming that my books are works of pure fiction—the product of a writer's imagination.
This approach is as illogical as accusing a crime novelist of being a murderer simply because they wrote a story about a crime or keeping crime writers in jail. While this extreme example is clearly unbelievable, I have continually faced a similar line of questioning where readers insist on treating my fictional stories as if they were my actual life stories.
A second, equally problematic approach involves readers creating and fixating on elaborate theories regarding the fictional love and fantasy story of a couple within my work. The speculative theories they generate are endless:
Will she take her ex back?
Are there financial disparities?
Is one of them living abroad and requiring a visa?
Are the children not biologically theirs?
Did the separation occur due to infidelity or infertility?
Is her ex dangerous or criminal?
Is her ex planning to attack the country?
Is her ex watching them, making them unsafe?
These relentless theories and predictions have been continuing for years, and when one proves false, a new accusation is manufactured and awaited.
While I can tolerate these theories remaining purely within the readers' minds, the problem escalates when they cross the line and violate my personal boundaries. They interfere with virtually every aspect of my life—from simple personal movements to serious medical or legal matters. They seem to believe they are entitled to perpetually interfere with my life simply because I am a writer and a blogger who shares thoughts publicly.
I am uncertain if this level of harassment is common for all writers, but I am formally requesting that legal authorities investigate this pattern of harassment and take appropriate action to stop it permanently.
This harassment is so profoundly impacting my life that I am afraid to write another story, worried that this time readers might take illegal action against my home, family, or me.
