DARK SIDE OF PHYCOLOGICAL TESTING
In psychology, various methods are employed to help patients cope with their situations, sometimes involving the creation of scenarios to illustrate potential outcomes. One approach involves creating a comparable environment where patients are surrounded by others who share their experiences, but with a twist: these individuals might emphasize how their own situations are worse, potentially making the patient feel relatively better off by comparison.
While this method might be effective for some, it can have a negative impact on others who see through the tactic and feel belittled or manipulated. Unfortunately, some environments can even prevent patients from enjoying their achievements by constantly comparing them to those who are high achievers or more successful.
The concern with such methods is that they can blur the line between genuinely helping patients cope with their situations and subjecting them to a form of psychological testing. In the latter case, patients might feel like they're in a "testing cage," where their reactions and resilience are being observed and judged rather than supported.
