ABORTION AND DIVORCE

Lawyer: Abortion is illegal based on the law.

Client: It is a personal decision.

Lawyer: There are millions without kids, wishing to have one.

Client: And there are millions with many kids who can't even take care of them.

Lawyer: I believe it is a sin too.

Client: I understand, perhaps because of believing it ends a life, but which is better: ending a fetus' life or having a kid who becomes a trouble, a murderer, or simply unwanted?

Lawyer: You can give birth to an unwanted child and leave it for adoption.

Client: But those without kids can take one or two kids from those who have many children and never wanted to do something against the law.

Lawyer: What are you talking about? It is crazy. We can't separate a kid from his family for someone else's trouble.

Client: Exactly my point. You are not allowed to tell someone else how many kids she is allowed to have. You are not allowed to take a kid from families who have more than 5 kids or in some cases 10-12 because it is a personal choice. It is not considered a sin even if they are not able to feed, provide education, or raise them properly. But on the other side, you are allowed to tell a woman if she can or can not terminate her pregnancy for the sake of those who don't have kids.

Lawyer: I didn't look at this problem like that. I guess the law should look into it. You are saying if we get involved in someone's decision for having or not having a kid, we should supervise every decision for this matter, also those who, without considering their financial, social, and health situation, have many kids for the same reason.

Client: This is similar to making a decision about divorce, separation, or living just with one spouse without any right for divorce.

 Lawyer: How is this related?

Client: Again, it is a personal choice, like millions who never get married practically using a pool of men and women or those who are married, unhappy living their life in a frame that law, religion, or society choose for them. In either way, they are the ones who suffer or are pleased by their decisions.

Lawyer: That's right, but their decisions impact society and the overall living environment.

Client: I agree. It is like the millions of decisions we make every day: go to this school or that, continue our education or not, get married to a rich man and never need to work, or pick a hard worker who needs our help for carrying life's financial pressure, have one kid or more, live here or there, do exercise or live comfortably, and...

Lawyer: I didn't look at this problem like that. I guess the law and society should look into it.

Client: There are many laws, morals, and traditions, new or old, that take sides. Just look into what is on the table and many rights are violated during this process. Sometimes I think this is  definition of law is blind “taking side” .

For a long time, I believed "law is blind" is about looking at everyone in the same way, but I experienced double standards in many rules and laws and understood "law is blind" means it cannot see every angle of a problem clearly.
