Decades ago, many men preferred having a "weak" woman by their side to ensure their own manhood was highlighted by comparison. Over the years, this mentality has shifted as women have consistently demonstrated their immense capability and strength. History proves that women are more than capable of raising children alone and working shoulder-to-shoulder with men in every field.
Despite this, a lingering bias remains. Some men still prefer that the women in their lives remain dependent on them, clinging to the outdated belief that a woman cannot truly survive without a man.
It is important to distinguish between capability and preference:
- Natural Desire for Care: Many women appreciate a level of dependency as a part of a healthy relationship. Having a partner who wants to provide and care for you can be a beautiful dynamic.
- The Fallacy of Incapability: The problem arises when society assumes that if a woman achieves something, it was only possible because a man was behind her. This belief minimizes female intelligence and agency.
The reality is that while many women can live without a man, they choose to have a caring partner in their lives. However, the moment "care" transforms into a claim of gender superiority, it becomes toxic. When a man uses a woman's willingness to be cared for as a way to point out her "weakness," he is no longer a provider—he is weaponizing her trust.
The Bottom Line: Being cared for is a choice we make, not a favor we owe. When support is used as a tool for suppression, it is no longer care; it is control.
