PATIENTS SUFFER IN BETWEEN
Canada's healthcare system provides free access to medical services in most areas, including consultations with medical doctors, hospital tests, lab work, and specialist diagnoses. However, certain services like psychology, physiotherapy, and other specialized areas run by PhD doctors are not covered by the free healthcare insurance.
Medical doctors who are covered by the government's insurance plan often try to minimize patients' problems during each visit, as they are paid per visit. On the other hand, many uncovered services are inaccessible to everyone due to their high costs.
While it's understandable that the Canadian government has its reasons for these policies, the resulting conflict between medical doctors and PhD doctors is unacceptable. This conflict often plays out at the expense of patients.
Personally, I have experienced this issue firsthand. Some medical doctors have implied that if I'm not paying for their services, they have the power to decide whether to see me, make me wait, diagnose me as they see fit, or even send me to the hospital unnecessarily. This behavior is unprofessional and unacceptable.
In this game of one-upmanship between medical doctors and the Canadian healthcare system, patients are the ones who suffer. It's time for a change to ensure that patients receive the care they need without being caught in the middle of this conflict.
