CRITICAL INJUSTICE
I firmly believe that our identity today is shaped by our past experiences, relationships, and encounters. Erasing or ignoring our roots may help us move forward from painful memories, but it hinders our personal growth and self-improvement. Unfortunately, some individuals are forced to suppress their heritage due to their birthplace or political conflicts. While ignoring the past might be beneficial in healing trauma, it's essential to acknowledge that abandoning our roots can lead to loss of identity.
Everyone has the right to make personal choices, but imposing one's beliefs, culture, or values on others is a violation of human rights. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights emphasizes the importance of respecting individual dignity, freedom, and cultural diversity ¹. It's crucial to recognize that our unique experiences and backgrounds contribute to the richness of our global community.
Those who belittle others, especially about their past, are often struggling with their own mental health issues. This behavior can be a sign of insecurity, low self-esteem, and a need for control and power over others . By putting others down, they temporarily boost their fragile ego. However, this harmful behavior can have severe consequences on the victim's mental health, leading to anxiety, depression, and a diminished sense of self-worth.
Regrettably, the justice and healthcare systems' involvement in this approach exacerbates the situation, rendering it critical and unsafe.
